Porduct Overview

EKL17-40BHP Type B HP RCBO is engineered to provide advanced circuit protection for heat pumps, inverter-driven equipment and modern residential or commercial electrical installations. Designed according to IEC/EN 62423 and IEC/EN 61009-1, this device is compliant with BS 7671 requirements for heat pump applications, making it a reliable choice for installations where DC residual currents and high-frequency leakage may occur.

Unlike standard residual current devices, the EKL17-40BHP is capable of detecting residual AC currents, pulsating DC currents and smooth DC currents. Its Type B HP design is optimized for heat pump circuits, where inverter technology can generate high-frequency switching noise. The device is designed to tolerate switching noise of 20kHz and above, helping to prevent unwanted tripping while maintaining reliable protection.

With a single-module 1P+N design, switched neutral, 30mA rated sensitivity and 10kA short-circuit breaking capacity, the EKL17-40BHP combines safety, performance and space-saving installation. It is suitable for DIN rail mounting and supports cable or pin-type busbar connections.

What is a Type B HP RCBO?

A Type B HP RCBO is a residual current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection designed to detect AC, pulsating DC and smooth DC residual currents. The HP version is optimized for heat pump and inverter-based applications where high-frequency leakage may occur.

Why is Type B HP protection recommended for heat pumps?

Modern heat pumps often use inverter technology, which can generate DC residual currents and high-frequency leakage. A Type B HP device helps provide suitable residual current protection while reducing unwanted nuisance tripping.

What standards does the EKL17-40BHP comply with?

The EKL17-40BHP is designed according to IEC/EN 62423 and IEC/EN 61009-1, and is suitable for heat pump applications requiring compliance with BS 7671.

What rated currents are available?

The EKL17-40BHP is available in 6A, 10A, 16A, 20A, 25A, 32A and 40A versions, with B curve and C curve options.

Is the EKL17-40BHP suitable for DIN rail installation?

Yes. The EKL17-40BHP is designed for mounting on a standard 35mm DIN rail, making it suitable for consumer units and distribution boards.
